چکیده

INTEGRAL monitoring of the Galactic Plane in the last 5 years revealed a new subclass of High Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs), the Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients (SFXTs). They display flares lasting from minutes to hours, with peak luminosity of 1036 −1037 erg s−1 and a frequent long term flaring activity reaching an X-ray luminosity of 1033 − 1034 erg s−1, as recently detected by the Swift satellite. The quiescent level is around 1032 erg s−1. We performed a systematic re-analysis of archival INTEGRAL data of four SFXTs: IGR J16479-4514, XTE J1739-302, IGR J17544-2619, IGR J18410-0535. This led to the discovery of previously unnoticed outbursts from IGR J16479-4514 and IGR J17544-2619. We discuss these results in the framework of the different structure of the supergiant wind proposed to explain the outburst from this new class of sources.

For about 100 years the amplitude of the 4 d pulsation in Polaris has decreased. We present new results showing a significant increase in the amplitude based on 4.5 years of continuous monitoring from the ground and with two satellite missions.

The acceleration of the cosmic expansion is a fundamental challenge to standard models of particle physics and cosmology. The new physics of dark energy may lie in the nature of gravity, the quantum vacuum, or extra dimensions. I give a brief overview of the puzzles and possibilities of dark energy, and discuss the confrontation of a wide variety of “beyond Einstein” models with the latest data...

Here we review the main results of LFV in the semileptonic tau decays τ → μPP (PP = π+π−,π0π0,K+K−,K0K̄0), τ → μP (P = π,η,η ), and τ → μV (V = ρ,φ ) as well as in μ − e conversion in nuclei within SUSY-seesaw scenarios, and compare our predictions with the present experimental bounds1 .

The NEMO prototype detector, called “NEMO Phase-1”, has been successfully operated at 2000 m depth from December 2006 to May 2007. The apparatus comprises a Junction Box and a Mini-Tower hosting 16 optical sensors. Preliminary results are presented. Positions of the optical sensors in the Mini-Tower were reconstructed through the acoustic positioning system with high level accuracy. Environment...
